Dangerously smart

In light of recent events, most specifically the vice-presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, my conclusion is that Governor Palin is dangerously smart.

After a series of severe blunders on national interviews, it became clear that Gov. Palin lacked the depth and reach associated with the vice-presidency and ultimately the presidency, she struggled to incorporate the strategy, tag-lines, sound-bites that the McCain camp wanted and thus showed her inexperience, her unpreparedness (along with her beliefs).

But, she learned very quickly …very quickly. She was in control throughout the debate, she new how to avoid the uncomfortable questions (in grand part by not answering them), how to drill down her message, how to reconnect with what originally energized the republican base: that folksy, hockey-mom, Joe sixpack as they say… «gee gosh, darn golly you betcha folks!»

By repeating over and over again the phrases that scare «Joe sixpack», or that inject a un-rooted and vain patriotism, phrases that I consciously omit here she showed she can maneuver herself, influence an often under-educated segment of american society.

Mine is not a universal truth, it is obviously personal, based on my principals, experiences, ideals, values, local and world view, but I know this, people can be very smart, and if focused on the wrong direction (my view) can be a world (literally) of problems, case in point, Dick Cheney.

OK, Sarah Palin is not Dick Cheney, but I got a glimpse of her ability to learn very quickly, to adapt, to deliver, to connect with a strong base of the republican right, but once again… in just a basically undesired direction.
